About the School Counseling Program
The School Counseling program is an integral part of the total educational program and is designed to meet the needs of all students through individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance and consultation with parents and teachers.

Individual Counseling
School Counseling is developmental and is designed to help students develop an understanding of themselves or others, define goals, and resolve conflict.

I DO NOT do psychotherapy or other techniques used in clinical setting or any that focus on mental illness.

Students may self-refer by leaving a note in my mailbox or parents and teachers may request that I see a student to discuss a particular concern.  I see students individually anywhere from one time to several weeks, depending on the topic.

Small Group Counseling
Sometimes students who share a common goal or concern find it helpful to meet together to share ideas and support.

Possible small group counseling topics are behavior, grief, divorce or family change, social skills, friendship, problem-solving, anger, study skills, test-taking skills and other classroom issues.

Students are not placed in small groups without parent permission.

Classroom Guidance
Classroom guidance activities are designed to help students be successful and get along in the classroom.

Guidance lessons are intended for all students and do not require students to reveal any personal information.

Each class in grades K-5 will receive 10 lessons per year that are related to a theme chosen with the help of each grade level.  The themes help connect one classroom guidance lesson to another and keep students excited about seeing their school counselor.

Consultation
The School Counseling program works with teachers, parents and community members to ensure that the needs of all students are met.

Please contact me at any time if you have concerns, questions or need any assistance regarding your students.
