What is the RCS Elementary Book Challenge?


Elementary Book Challenge is a program which encourages reading among all students at the elementary school level.  A team is selected from participating 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to compete in a district-wide competition.  The "quiz-bowl" style game format creates interest and excitement in reading.

How can my student participate in the RCS Elementary Book Challenge?

  • Meet deadline for sign up  -- October 4, 2016
  • Permission slip signed by parent or guardian
  • Commit to read all 15 of the books on the RCS Elementary Book Challenge list and take AR test for each book
  • Attend and exhibit exemplary behavior at RCS Elementary Book Challenge meetings
  • Exhibit exemplary behavior at Ellenboro Elementary School

How will the team be selected?


Students who wish to participate are required to:
  • Read the 15 books on the RCS Elementary Book Challenge list
  • Take AR test for each book and score 80% or above
  • Score 14/15 correct on title/author matching quiz
  • Participate in online practice program
  • Meet all deadlines
  • Participate in RCS Elementary Book Challenge meetings

When does the RCS Elementary Book Challenge team meet?

The RCS Elementary Book Challenge team will begin meeting one afternoon a week from 3:15pm until 4:15pm and one morning a week from 8:00am until 8:25am.  The afternoon practices will take place on Tuesday afternoons beginning October 11, 2016.  The morning practices will take place every Wednesday morning in the media center beginning December 7, 2016.
