Learning for the Future Makes a Happy Tiger Roar!
What we are learning....

On this page you will find information about what we will be learning for the rest of the year. Also, I have posted some links to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction website that shows the standards by which Kindergarten teachers are to plan their instruction around. There is also a link to the Common Core that North Carolina school systems use. Use these sites to help you to understand just what your student will be learning!

Common Core Standards

English/Language Arts

Each six weeks, we focus on a certain unit for our ELA standards. During the unit, we use a variety of texts to teach Common Core ELA standards, along with Social Studies and Science standards, to Kindergarteners . Here is a summary of what are learning each six weeks.

1st Six Weeks- A Colorful Time with Rhythm and Rhyme
2nd Six Weeks- Tell a Story- 1, 2, 3
3rd Six Weeks- Exploring with Friends in the Neighborhood
4th Six Weeks- America: Symbols and Celebrations
5th Six Weeks- The Great Big World
6th Six Weeks- Wonders of Nature: Plants, Bugs, Frogs

Saxon Phonics

Each week in our Saxon Phonics lessons, we learn about a new letter. We do worksheets and practice writing the letters to help us better understand the letters and how they work. As we approach the end of the year, we will begin to learn digraphs and other phonological skills that will help our students to become better readers and writers.

Below is a link that provides useful tools in helping you understand what is being taught in Math. It shows actual lessons for you to be able to view what your child learned in class to help you be more prepared to help them with any homework.
