Book Character Parade

Our Book Character Parade was held on Friday, October 31, 2014, beginning at 9:00 AM.

Our PreK through 2nd grade students and staff, along with parents and family members, gathered along the front drive of the school to watch as the fire truck, guests of honor, our school mascot, the East High band, and our third, fourth and fifth grade students and their teachers, dressed as a book character of their choice, paraded in front of the school and down the drive.

Following the parade, everyone assembled in the gym/cafeteria area.  We were entertained with a short performance by the East High band. Mr. Bass talked with students about the importance of reading. Then our guest speaker, Laura Linder, who is the parent of a former Ellenboro student, Katie, and current student, Roxanne, read her book, Princess Katie and the Monster Called Disease. Mrs. Linder wrote this fictional story based on Katie's actual diagnosis and recovery from Wegener's granulomatosis disease.

The event ended with the judging and announcement of the third, fourth and fifth grade winners of the book character costume contest.
