Today's strong storm system led to widespread flooding, numerous power outages, and hazardous travel conditions throughout our area. While those conditions are improving this evening, we are mindful that some continued flooding, debris in roadways, falling trees, and other hazards may continue overnight and into the early morning hours tomorrow. So that we can fully assess travel conditions tomorrow morning, and so that drivers have the benefit of improved visibility, Rutherford County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 10.

Earlier this afternoon, law enforcement and school officials were made aware of a social media message circulated through Twitter threatening students and school personnel at a school described as "East Rutherford High School." This message has been broadly recirculated through our school community and through the community at large. School officials and law enforcement personnel appreciate all the calls, texts, and tip line calls alerting us to this message and the potential threat it expresses.
Through the coordinated efforts of federal and local law enforcement personnel and school officials, the individual who posted the threat was promptly identified, and the threat has been confirmed to be a hoax.
Tonight, and at all times, the safety of our students is our top priority. We will continue to monitor social media activity, investigate real and potential threats, and take every step necessary to ensure a safe school environment.
